Chip Seal
Chip seals, also known as “oil and chip” or “road surface treatments”, have been applied throughout the United States for many years with tremendous success. Chip seals are very economical and a great tool to be incorporated into pavement management programs.
Chip seals are used to provide a high friction wearing course over an old road pavement. Double Chip Seals have been used extensively as a treatment for unimproved (dirt) roadways. Chip seals also help seal small cracks and waterproof the old pavement.
Advantages to using chip seal include: cost-effective, reduces skidding, waterproofs roadway, environmentally friendly, seals small cracks, few traffic control delays, and long lasting.
